How Police Track You Down Failing to Remain after an accident
Under the HTA, failure to remain at the scene of an accident is considered to be a provincial offence. As such, it carries penalties that include fines ranging from $400 to $2,000. Also included are demerits (six), a possible court-ordered driver’s license suspension for up to two years. In extreme circumstances, jail time of up to six months is also possible. In addition to these possible punishments, insurance companies view this as one of the major infractions available to them.
